This is a festive take on a previous idea, idea 142 (symmetry birds). What I particularly like about this task is that there is enough of a scaffold at each step of the proceedings that most children should be able to complete this independently.
Each child needs half of an outline drawn on a piece of paper (this takes about two minutes to draw).
- They fold their paper down the middle and cut out the outline of the bird.
- They unfold their paper and make a symmetrical copy of the features of the bird (the wings and eyes and so on).
- They colour the bird in.
