Idea 234: Don’t Roll a 6!

This is a classic fun Maths activity requiring only one die per child. The game is essentially: you keep rolling the die again and again, adding up the numbers you roll as you go. The objective is to get as high as score as you can. BUT if you roll a 6, you are ‘bust’ and have to begin again from 0!

Easy to model with a big sponge die or on your smartboard first, then set children off to see what total they can reach in pairs. One child rolls and the other adds up the total. Rolls are swapped when they go bust by rolling a 6.

Once the children know how to play this game you can make it a quick warmer activity or a challenge task for early finishers.
